Minister Çitaku holds her speech in front of Kosovo’s National Council for Economic Development

Prishtina, 13 November 2012 – Led by Deputy Prime Minister Mimoza Kusari – Lila, today was held rotating meeting of the National Council for Economic Development. Subject of this meeting were a number of issues that have to deal mainly with promotion and implementation structural reforms for economic development, but also as a guarantee for sustainability in the development and advancing of social welfare of our citizens in the Republic of Kosovo.

Minister of European Integration, Vlora Çitaku in her speech stated that “within the Feasibility Study the EU has uprightly and correctly assessed efforts that Kosovo has done on implementing reforms in the market economy and building of institutional capacities to achieve compatibility of laws, policies and European standards dealing with economic development. The report also identified a considerable number of challenges that Kosovo necessarily needs to address to so that we can start negotiations for the Stabilization and Association Agreement”.

In addition Minister Çitaku spoke in details about economic policies, trade, employment, and many other things that will contribute economic development of our country. While in regard to the Stabilization and Association Agreement minister Çitaku said that “At the level of institutional capacities a key element is capacity to negotiate the component of trade within the next SAA, since the administrative capacities for conducting the negotiations are related to many areas.

 

Capacities are required to assess the benefits and costs for the amendments in trade arrangements and other conditions for implementation of SAA. Negotiating structures and consultation mechanisms with interested sides should be sustainable and produce concrete results in function of the negotiation and fulfilment of such requests. To begin an analytical study that should be done in a professional manner in identifying negotiation priorities of the Republic of Kosovo. The final step is to require arrangements and relevant institutional mechanisms in ensuring coordination of the overall process of negotiations, and strong capacities on aligning and effective implementation of the whole relevant legislation that includes a wide spectrum of areas that affect economic policies, quality infrastructure , free movement of goods, services, workers and investing capital promotion , SME-s, making business, the private sector, industry, intellectual and industrial property rights , and many other areas” said hereby  Minister  Çitaku.

General Information

National Council for Economic Development is the principal advisory and decision making body on the economic policies and reforms, which gathers every month. This council is consisted of Prime Ministry, 11 ministries, Assembly Commission on Economic Development, Infrastructure, Trade and Industry, three business associations and also from the foreign donors that are helping Kosovo.
