European Integration

Information campaign

Starting from 1 January 2024, citizens of the Republic of Kosovo will now have the opportunity to travel without visa to the Schengen area countries. The positive implications of this decision must necessarily be accompanied by adequate information to combat the risk of irregular migration and overstaying or other motives associated with travelling abroad. For this purpose, an information campaign has been prepared for the citizens of Kosovo.

The #VisaFree information campaign is led by the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, namely the Visa Liberalization Secretariat, consisting of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora. It cooperates with various actors, donors, and other stakeholders to contribute to the success of this campaign. The campaign is funded by the Office of the Prime Minister and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

The campaign will depict a positive success story for Kosovo and Europe, highlighting the sense of European belonging. The two key messages to be conveyed are: to visit our family members within the Schengen area through short stays and to make use of the right to travel to European capitals as tourists and benefit from cultural and social exchange opportunities.

The campaign will inform Kosovo citizens of the rules, rights and obligations, procedures and opportunities during their travels to the Schengen countries. The campaign targets all citizens without exception, with a focus on age groups 18-30 and 30-45 due to their potential for migration and misuse of the right to movement.

The campaign will inform you that visa liberalization means visa-free travel to the Schengen area, where Kosovo citizens having biometric passports will enjoy the right to travel without visas starting from 1 January 2024. Visa-free travel will be possible for short-term tourists, cultural, sports visits, participation in various events, as well as visits to relatives or friends. The campaign will essentially educate citizens that stays will be possible for up to 90 days within a 180-day period, while long-term employment and education are not allowed.

The campaign will include field activities as well as social media and TV or radio networks.

The #VisaFree information campaign for 2023 will start in October and will continue into the next year. For updated information on visa liberalization, click here: https://integrimievropian.rks-gov.net/
