Kosovo and Albania deepen their cooperation for European integration process

March 26, 2014

Prishtina, 26 March 2014 – Minister of European Integration of the Republic of Kosovo, Ms. Vlora Çitaku and her counterpart from the Republic of Albania, Klajda Gjosha, signed a cooperation agreement for coordinating the translation of EU legislation into Albanian language. On this occasion, Minister Gjosha, on behalf of the Albanian Government, submitted to Minister Çitaku 137 acts or 2.943 pages of EU legislation translated into Albanian language.

After the meeting, Minister Çitaku and Minister Gjosha signed the cooperation agreement for functionalization of the technical committee for the translation of EU legislation into Albanian language and submission of material translated into Albanian language from the Government of Albania to the Government of Kosovo.

After the agreement signing ceremony, both ministers addressed the media, where on this occasion Minister Çitaku stated: “The signing of today’s agreement for functionalizing the technical committee for translation of EU legislation into Albanian language from Kosovo Government marks a concrete step in implementing the decisions of both governments and to deepen the cooperation. The establishment of the technical committee for the translation of EU legislation is mandated to structure our cooperation towards the translation of all EU legislation into a single language within the legal systems of both our countries. “

Speaking on the importance of this agreement, Minister Çitaku said that:“EU legislation includes over 100,000 pages of primary and secondary acts of the EU, therefore Albania and Kosovo must unite human and financial resources to coordinate the translation of this legislation into one language and avoid duplication of translation which would induce additional financial costs and legal confusion. “

Whereas, Minister of European Integration of the Republic of Albania, Klajda Gjosha said: “I welcome the deepening of cooperation between Tirana and Prishtina as two friendly countries and expect that our aspirations for full integration of both our countries in the European Union will soon be successfully concluded.”

In her presentation to the media, Minister Gjosha added that: “Today we reached a mutual agreement on the translation of EU legislation, which is not the only one we have as two friendly countries. Today, I officially delivered all EU legislation that the Government of Albania has translated into Albanian language.”

Among other issues of today’s meeting both ministers also discussed the idea of organizing a tripartite meeting between the Ministries of European Integration of Kosovo, Albania and Macedonia.

Also, it was discussed the implementation of projects within the European Union assistance for Cross border Cooperation between Kosovo and Albania.
