Minister Çitaku continues the meeting’s agenda for coordination with Mayors

Minister of European Integration, Ms. Vlora Çitaku, as part of her agenda to meet with the Mayors of Kosovo`s Municipalities, to advance coordination and cooperation regarding the European integration process, today was hosted by the Mayor of Obiliq Mr. Gashi, whom she informed, in more details, about the development of negotiations for the Stabilisation and Association Agreement and the European Integration process in general.

Also, they focused, in more details, to topics which relate cooperation of local governance to the central level, such as; the process of reintegrating persons repatriated in the Municipality of Obiliq, treating the phenomenon of irregular migration, possibilities of financing projects within the Instrument of Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) in municipal level.

At the same time, they discussed the possibilities of accommodating, in the municipal administration of Obiliq, the scholarship holders from the “Young Cells Scheme”, a project in cooperation with the Ministry of European Integration and European Commission.

Topics which contribute to the development of a professional administration in Kosovo, and at the same time, contribute to European integration process in general, to Visa Liberalisation as well as strengthening coordination between institutions.

On this occasion, Minister Çitaku, stated; “in order to increase coordination we need to communicate and coordinate activities, as much as possible, in order to achieve optimal success. Municipalities should be included and committed in the process of reintegrating the repatriated persons, today we are in the municipality of Obiliq and we will continue to other municipalities in order to see the achievements and challenges that municipalities have in this process”.

Minister Çitaku expressed her support for the Municipality of Obiliq, as a municipality with particular specifics, considering the pollution that the power plant is causing to this municipality.

It was also said that the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities should be supported in order to be included in the Kosovo society and respective institutions in the local as well as in the central administration.

On his behalf, the Mayor of the Municipality of Obiliq, Mr. Xhafer Gashi thanked Minister Çitaku for her visit and expressed willingness to cooperate with the central level, in order to push forward all processes regarding European Integration.
