Lisbon, 25 May 2016 – Minister of European Integration, Mr. Bekim Çollaku is currently staying in an official visit to Portugal, whereby today he met with the Secretary of State on European Affairs, Ms. Margarida Marques.
Minister Çollaku extended his gratitude to the Secretary of State, Ms. Marques, for Portugal’s continuous support to Kosovo, from the recognition of independence to their contribution and presence within the KFOR and EULEX mission.
Minister Çollaku informed Ms. Marques regarding recent developments in Kosovo, as well as on the European reform agenda with a focus in the developments on the SAA and the visa liberalization process, since we are in the phase of decision-making by the EU institutions.
On the other hand, Secretary Marques confirmed that Portugal will remain a supporter of the European path of Kosovo, including the visa liberalization process.
During the meeting, both interlocutors emphasized the need of deepening cooperation and trade relations, since upon the entry into force of the SAA there are new opportunities. More specifically, they discussed the possibility of investments in the sector of agriculture, renewable energy, construction, etc.
Minister Çollaku’s visit to Lisbon was the first visit of a senior official of the Republic of Kosovo to Portugal. As a result of this visit, parties agreed to sign in a near future a Memorandum of Understanding in all fields of common interests.
