Prishtina, 21 October 2013 – Minister of European Integration, Mrs. Vlora Çitaku hosted in an introductory meeting, the newly appointed non-resident Ambassador for Kosovo, from the Government of Japan, his Excellency Mr. Makoto Taketoshi. During the meeting, it was discussed over recent developments in Kosovo, the achieved progress on the European Agenda, commencing of the SAA negotiation and the visa liberalisation process. Concurrently, it was also discussed the improvement of neighbourly relations with Serbia and the progress of the entire region on the way towards integration in the European Union.
Minister Çitaku informed, in more details, the Ambassador Taketoshi on the preparations of the Kosovo`s Government for commencing negotiations on the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA).
Furthermore, current challenges of the Republic of Kosovo prior to the next elections; priorities of the Republic of Kosovo referring to European Integration, the visa liberalisation process, also advancing of bilateral relations, with particular emphasis in developing economic relations between Kosovo and Japan, were discussed.
On this occasion, Minister Çitaku stated that: “We greet the constant assistance provided by the Japanese government since 1999”.
Also, in relation to the current processes, the Minister stated that: “SAA is of particular importance for Kosovo`s European path, but over all, it contributes to Kosovo towards the implementation of a state-wide sustainable reform. Whereas, regarding the visa liberalisation process, Minister Çitaku informed Ambassador Taketoshi on the flow of fulfilling the criteria’s and recommendations emerging from the visa liberalization roadmap, regional cooperation and improvement of neighbourly relations as criteria for advancing with European integration”.
Minister Çitaku thanked Ambassador Taketoshi for the support of the people and the Government of Japan, given for Kosovo, and pledged that further strengthening of bilateral relations between our two countries will further continuo.
On his part, Ambassador Taketoshi, pledged that the relations between our countries will be strengthened, and as until now, Kosovo will have the Japan support whenever required
