Minister Ahmetaj received in a meeting the Austrian Ambassador to Kosovo, Mr. Gernot Pfandler

Prishtina, 18 January 2017 – Minister of European Integration, Ms. Mimoza Ahmetaj, in the light of activities to strengthen the support for the Republic of Kosovo’s European path, had a meeting with the Austrian Ambassador to Kosovo, Mr. Gernot Pfandler.

During the meeting they discussed Kosovo’s current situation, namely the most recent developments in the European agenda such as: progress in the implementation of the Stabilization and Association Agreement, the European Reforms Agenda, the visa liberalization process and EU programs, whereby Kosovo is focused on having a broad public debate to decide which program would best benefit Kosovo.

Moreover, in the meeting with Ambassador Pfandler, Minister Ahmetaj expressed her gratitude to Austria for its continuous support to Kosovo, both in the past as well as in the present during the state-building period. Also, Austria is among the first countries to have recognized Kosovo’s independence, and has continuously supported Kosovo’s key process, which now is European integration.

Minister Ahmetaj emphasized the willingness of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo to strengthen cooperation with Austria in the interest of developing Kosovo and approximation of the country with European Union.

Whereas, Ambassador Pfandler confirmed Austria’s strong support to Kosovo’s European perspective, and stated that the door to Kosovo remains open for supporting state-building and particularly advancing with European integration. Also, he pointed out that Kosovo, although only nine years from the declaration of its independence, compared to the region, is making safe steps toward consolidation of a democratic country.

Also, Ambassador Pfandler invited Minister Ahmetaj to visit Vienna in due time, so that she can meet with her counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Europe Integration, Mr. Sebastian Kurz, to discuss the possibility of coordinating and consulting on pushing forward Kosovo’s European Agenda.
