Meeting with Municipal Mayors and Municipal Security Councils in the Community was held

Considering that how complex and inclusive is the process of European Integration, Kosovo Government is undertaking all necessary steps that the results to be as much positive as they can. In this meeting is emphasized in order to achieve the goals is needed more adequate coordination with all key institutions in this process, as in local as in central level.

On this occasion Prime Minister Mr. Hashim Thaçi stated: “Based on the examples of success regarding decentralization and creation of new municipalities in Kosovo, we can say that we have had substantial progress in the improvement of interethnic climate and the integration of the minorities. But of course, there are challenges that we are committed to overcome together. We achieved to enable citizens to decide for themselves about things that relate to local government. I want to emphasize once again that in all the commitments that you have as a local government, such as mayors, as the ministry of local government, all ministries related to these issues and you honourable representatives of local government, will have maximum support from the Government of the Republic of Kosova”.

Minister Çitaku as the host of this meeting supported the so far work that has been done and stated that in order to support and intensify this matter she will continue meeting all municipal mayors.

Minister Çitaku added that: “Kosovo is already on the right path of European integration, and for the first time we are entering into the Stabilization and Association process, in fact, are the recommendations of the feasibility study that was enabled by this approach, but this achievement of the central level is the merit of local level, there where applicable policies which are drawn up at central level. So Dear representatives of Kosovo Municipalities, you are those who apply these policies and you are the ones who help the country to progress. This is why you are here today in order to discuss these policies and ensure their implementation in practice. With the sole purpose to upgrade the welfare of the citizens of Kosovo, regardless of ethnicity, gender or religion”

Today`s meeting is organized in the context of increasing awareness in creating the environment for sustainable return of the communities.
