France supports Kosovo on European integration

Paris, 20th of November 2013. – Minister of European Integration, Vlora Çitaku and the Minister of Interior, Mr. Bajram Rexhepi, during their visit in Paris have continued with the foreseen agenda on meeting French Government high state officials, members of the French Parliament and members of European Parliament from France.

Minister Çitaku had a meeting with Mrs. Danielle AUROI, President of the Committee for European Affairs in the National Assembly, which was accompanied by members of the Committee. Possibilities of supporting Kosovo to the European agenda were the subject of discussion. Minister Çitaku emphasized that Kosovo’s commitment, to advance with European integration process, is maximal even among key priorities of the Government, and that this commitment is demonstrated also by criteria fulfilment same time demonstrating both cross-party and state-wide consensus regarding integration process. This commitment is also demonstrated by approximation of stances regarding achievement of the 19th April agreement, in order to contribute to peace and perspective of our country, but also to the entire region, in the path towards EU integration.

Minister Çitaku, today also met with French Prime Minister Counsellor, same time General Secretary for European Affairs in the French Government, Mr. Serge GUILLON. During the meeting, current processes in Kosovo were discussed in more details. Particularly in relation to European integration, the progress of negotiations on the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) with the EU, the organization of free and democratic elections, improvement of neighbourly relations with Serbia, and progress in relation to visa liberalization, were discussed. On this occasion, Minister Çitaku urged French Government support regarding Kosovo’s European agenda, considering the positive appraisals, such as the recent ones, from the European Commission on the progress towards the EU integration.

In this light, Minister Çitaku met also with the Director for Continental Europe, Mr. Eric Fournier, in order to emphasize the recent achievements of our country and also to be informed regarding general agendas in relation to the region and our country.

During the meeting with parliamentary France – Kosovo friendship group, namely with the Chairperson Mrs. GOSSELIN-FLEURY, and MP`s members of the group was rated the excellent level of relations between Kosovo and France as in the level of political dialogue as well as in the social and economic, but also, the possibility of further expansion of inter-parliamentary cooperation to contribute as much to advancement of our relationships, was discussed.

Minister Çitaku expressed her gratitude to French MP`s for the support to Kosovo in European integration process and the importance that is being given to the issue of Kosovo for equal treatment with all Western Balkan countries, because in this way is contributed to the advancement of the entire region.

Mrs. GOSSELIN-FLEURY thanked Minister Çitaku on behalf of the Kosovo Government for the constructiveness and contribution that Kosovo is giving to the entire region with its approach, considering that the best and only way to contribute to the processes is through negotiations and dialogue.
