WORK ON VISA LIBERALIZATION PROCESS IS INTENSIFIED

January 22, 2015

Prishtina, 22 January 2015 – Today the Minister of European Integration, Bekim Çollaku invited on a meeting the Working Group on Visa Liberalization. During the meeting, Minister Çollaku informed the representatives of institutions regarding the political context of the visa liberalization process and was informed on the remaining challenges of the visa liberalization process.

During the meeting it was discussed about the remaining criteria in implementation of visa liberalization roadmap. Respective institutions reported within the Working Group regarding the next steps that will be undertaken in order to address the remaining criteria.

Among others, Minister Çollaku stated that the “Government of the Republic of Kosovo has agreed with the European Commission to submit a final report regarding the implementation of the remaining criteria. This report will be sent to the European Commission only when we assess that we have managed to meet all the foreseen actions and measures from the strategic documents. Therefore as soon as possible we need to address the remaining criteria so we can sooner submit the report in Brussels, thus paving the way for the European Commission to send another assessment mission prior commencing the internal procedures of EU for amending the Regulation 539/2001, thus recommending Kosovo to be included in the list of countries that can travel to the EU without visas”.

At the end of the meeting, the Working Group concluded its work with assigning of the tasks for every responsible institution and agreed upon deadlines for implementing the remaining criteria.
