The proposal of Minister Hoxha relating the Agreement on cross border cooperation with Montenegro has been approved

Prishtina, 9 October 2018 – This Agreement is expected to pave the way for promoting the economic development of Kosovo’s border area with Montenegro, said Minister Hoxha.

The Minister of European Integration, Dhurata Hoxha, has proposed for approval the Tripartite Financial Agreement between the European Union, Kosovo and Montenegro for 2017, for the implementation of the cross-border cooperation program under the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA II) between Kosovo and Montenegro, which has been approved by the Government Cabinet.

“The Agreement enables the implementation of the cross-border cooperation program between the two countries within the allocation of the IPA fund for 2017. The cross-border cooperation program with EU funds aims to increase regional cooperation and foster the development of border areas between Kosovo and Montenegro”, said Minister Hoxha.

The content of this program, between the two countries involved is: Promotion of employment, labour mobility and social and cultural inclusion along the borders, Environmental protection, adaptation to climate change, prevention and risk management, as well as fostering of tourism and cultural and natural heritage.

“This Agreement is expected to pave the way for promoting the economic development of Kosovo’s border area with Montenegro”, said Minister Hoxha, adding that after this approval, other steps follow in terms of opening opportunities for Kosovo to receive funds foreseen in the framework of IPA funds for cross-border cooperation, which for this program amounts to 1.2 million Euros for both countries.
