Promotion of the use of official languages in Kosovo has the proper support

Prishtina, 17 December 2013 – Minister of European Integration, Vlora Çitaku participated at the round table  on the role and promotion of the use of official languages in Kosovo, upon which occasion was awarded the price of best journalistic paper for the best story in terms of respecting the languages.

This event coincides with the closing of a six-month project “Public awareness campaign in support of effective implementation of the Law on the Use of Languages, which promotes human rights and contributes to the inclusion of non-majority communities” a project which was supported by the United Nations Development Program – UNDP in Kosovo.

The purpose of this campaign was to increase public awareness, with particular emphasis to the non-majority community in Kosovo, Medias, local and central institutions regarding to unequal use of languages in workplaces, translation of draft-legislation and adopted ones on the inclusion of non-majority communities and in the promotion of human rights.

During this roundtable, speakers have presented the results of the work of the Office of the Language Commissioner until now, the plans for 2014 and details on the role of this institution in improving the position of all communities and intensifying the European integration process.
