Minister Hoxha: We have achieved progress in the SAA implementation

Prishtina, 19 June 2018 – During the parliamentary interpellation on the implementation of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) for the last quarter of 2017 and the first quarter of 2018, the Minister of European Integration, Dhurata Hoxha, stressed that the European integration process has been characterized by a progressive dynamics in the recent years.

“The SAA has entered into force, establishing contractual obligations between Kosovo and the EU on the one hand, and representing the foundations of our EU membership on the other hand. We are on the verge of visa liberalization for the citizens of Kosovo. Kosovo is now part of the EU programs, being equal with all the Western Balkan countries. The EU and Kosovo have agreed upon a development assistance to support the rule of law, economic development and the increase of the welfare of citizens. This supports is in the amount of EUR 645 million for the period 2014-2020”, said Minister Hoxha.

“This international agreement is the most important and inclusive agreement Kosovo has ever concluded, since this agreement has established the framework of our relations with EU member states and its institutions, as well as the formal mechanisms and deadlines for reforms that will progressively align Kosovo with EU standards, create political stability and democratic institutions, and integrate its economy into the EU, making it capable of coping with market powers and competitive pressure within the EU’s internal market”, said Minister Hoxha.

“The SAA covers all governance aspects within its 144 articles, divided into ten titles, seven annexes, five protocols and a joint declaration”, stressed Minister Hoxha during her speech.
