Minister Hoxha: Transparency in communicating the integration process increases accountability

Prishtina, 8 May 2019 – The Committee for European Integration, in cooperation with the Forum for Parliamentary Transparency, held a meeting on “Communication in the European Integration Process in Kosovo; the role of civil society and the media”, which was chaired by Mrs Blerta Deliu Kodra.

Minister of European Integration, Dhurata Hoxha, opened the discussion on the communication process aimed at informing the public by providing objective information and challenging the misconceptions about the Kosovo-EU relationship, especially the need to inform the citizens about concrete steps to be followed towards membership and which institutions are responsible for reforms such as rule of law, economic empowerment, or investment promotion.

Regarding the implementation of reforms or the implementation of the SAA and the ERA, we will focus on communicating the implementation level in qualitative terms and in concrete terms, just as the EU Country Report is, adding that the Ministry of European Integration has a coordinating role and is committed to ensuring transparency.

Timely reporting contributes to increased accountability, especially in those cases where the implementation of any EU-funded projects is delayed or fails due to lack of institutional responsibility, either at the central or local level, pointed out Minister Hoxha.

On the occasion of marking the European Day, we have launched an awareness-raising campaign for better public information, the Minister added, in order to raise awareness about the steps towards EU membership, the importance of SAA, the importance of inclusiveness and of active citizenship to increase accountability as well as the importance of promoting the EU values in the country.

Minister Hoxha emphasized that the Ministry of European Integration will require reports on the fulfilment of the recommendations, which is a role given by the Government, and will provide cooperation and discussions that will result in a better coordination for the integration process.
