Minister Çollaku hosted in meetings by Italian state high officials

Prishtina, April 8 – The Minister of the Ministry of European Integration, Mr. Bekim Çollaku accompanied by Chairwomen of the Parliamentary Committee for European Integration, Mrs. Teuta Sahatqija and members of this Committee, Mr. Ilir Deda and Ms. Luljeta Veselaj-Gutaj, held today two separated meetings at the Italian parliament, with members of  European and Foreign Affairs Committee of Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.

The meeting at the Chamber of Deputies of Italian Parliament was attended by Mr. Fabrizio Cicchito, Chairman of Foreign Affairs Committee and Mr. Michael Brodo, Chairman of EU Affairs Committee as well as other members of the relevant parliamentary committees. The meeting at the Senate was headed by Senator Vannino Chiti, Chairman of the EU Affairs Committee at Italian Senate.

In both of the above meetings is discussed on strengthening of bilateral relations between Kosovo and Italy, as well as the implementation of bilateral agreements with the main focus on economic cooperation, Italian investments growth and trade exchange between the two countries. In addition to these topics, the delegation of Republic of Kosovo also discussed on enhancing political cooperation, including the acceleration of the European integration process, the recognition of the Republic of Kosovo by the non-recognizing EU member states, as well as strengthening of inter-parliamentary cooperation.

“In today’s meetings with institutional representatives, including Italian MP-s whom we met today, it is clear that Republic of Kosovo has a deep and a long-term friendship with Italy and I was impressed with positive spirit in relation to Kosovo’s EU integration process  same as for other Balkan countries.

This meeting was a good opportunity to discuss on how to deepen our cooperation even more. The MP`s expressed Italy’s support to Republic of Kosovo and its EU integration process including soon signing and entry into force of Stabilisation Association Agreement, as well as the conclusion of visa liberalization process for Kosovo citizens. They also were interested in implementation of reforms in several fields, whereby our delegation informed them on achievements and future progress, both on EU integration plan in general, and internal affairs as well as the regional cooperation in particular”, stated minister Çollaku.

Other issues that MP`s were interested to hear relates to Kosovo’s progress in addressing the challenges in the field of rule of law, fight against corruption and organized crime, fight against radicalism, illegal migration, women’s institutional representation, protection of human rights, religious freedom, etc
