Italy will continue to support Kosovo’s European agenda

Prishtina, April 8 – To the Minister of European Integration, Mr. Bekim Çollaku, is reaffirmed the Italy’s support for Kosovo’s European agenda, with particular emphasis on the signing the Stabilization and Association Agreement and completion of the visa liberalization process in accordance with the fulfilment of the criteria. Also, during the meeting in Rome with the Secretary of State for European Affairs of Italy, Sandro Gozi, Minister Çollaku received Italian support for Kosovo’s membership in regional initiatives and international organizations.

Minister Çollaku expressed his gratitude for continuous support of Italy to Kosovo, and same time informed Mr. Gozi on undertaken and future steps of Kosovo`s government in relation to  meeting the key priorities for economic development, generation of new jobs and finally the advancing the European integration process of our country.

“We are working to make 2015 a European year for Kosovo. It is about the time that European perspective of our country to take its desired shape. SAA have a particular importance in this regard since it implies contractual relations between Kosovo and the EU. Furthermore, the signing of SAA will create a new momentum and will enable Kosovo to benefit from the various programs provided by EU. We are having progress in this regard and signing of the SAA is expected to take place during this year. This will be a new and important step towards reform process of Kosovo”, stated Mr. Çollaku.

Whereas, in relation to visa liberalization process, Minister Çollaku stated that by June, Kosovo will met all required criteria, and will deliver the final report to the European Commission for further assessment, only than we will undertake other steps expected.

“Although the European Commission was more stricter  with Kosovo in comparison to other Western Balkan countries, we have worked hard in the last three years to meet the criteria stipulated by the visa roadmap. Therefore, we expect that this year the European Commission to assess visa criteria and issue a positive recommendation,” added Minister Çollaku.

The meeting discussed the dialogue on normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, whereby minister Çollaku assured Mr. Gozi, that Government of the Republic of Kosovo is committed to work towards regional cooperation and dialogue with Serbia. A special attention was paid to the deepening of bilateral cooperation between Kosovo and Italy. In this regard, minister Çollaku re-stated that Italian  investors are welcomed to invest in Kosovo in sectors as agricultural, food processing, tourism, mining, etc.
