Minister Çitaku was invited to speak on the Feasibility Study report on Stabilization and Association Agreement between European Union and Kosovo.
Central topic of the discussion were four short term criteria for the beginning of negotiations defined in the Feasibility study that deal with rule of law, public administration reform, cultural heritage and trade.
As far as meeting of the four criteria for the beginning of negotiations, immediately after the publication of the Feasibility Study a meeting of the Ministerial Council for European Integration was held. During the meeting of Ministerial Council for the coordination of the European Integration process, were distributed tasks to each institution and monitoring of the implementation of the obligations for each sector has started.
On this occasion Minister Çitaku said that “The 2012 has been a year of concretization of Kosovo’s European agenda. During this year by launching the process of the Feasibility Study, the Republic of Kosovo started with official and long term process of becoming member of the EU. On 10th of October European Commission published the Feasibility Study for Kosovo. Feasibility Study concluded that Kosovo is generally ready to begin negotiations on the Stabilization and Association Agreement, which presents first step towards EU membership.
In this context the publication of the Feasibility Study and proposal for the beginning of the negotiations for the Stabilization and Association Agreement marks a new momentum in the diagram of consolidation and factorization of the international position of Kosovo but also official launch of the long journey towards joining European Union continued Minister.
During the meeting stressed that: “Republic of Kosovo will now be an equal partner in relation to the European Union, same as all countries in the region. This act marks the beginning of a very important process in the relationship between Kosovo and EU. This is going to be first formal and legal step in our path towards EU.
The European Commission has recommended opening of the negotiations for the signing of the Stabilization and Association Agreement. Kosovo has already managed to overpass most of the political, economical and European standards challenges to begin the negotiations for Stabilization and Association Agreement and this is a common success of all the institutions of Kosovo and its citizens. Among other things, the Feasibility Study has confirmed that European Union has no legal obstacles to enter in any contractual relationship with Kosovo”.
