Kosovo will have German support

Berlin, Germany, January 9, 2013 – Minister of European Integration Vlora Çitaku and the prime ministers advisor Mr. Bekim Çollaku are staying on a working visit in Berlin following the Government’s coordination visits with capitals of Quint. During the day, Minister Çitaku and Mr. Çollaku were hosted by Emily Haber, State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Christoph Heusgen, and the Political Director Dieter Lucas.

Main topics of this meeting were: the process of Euro-Atlantic integration of Kosovo, Kosovo’s progress in the SAA dialogue process and visa liberalization as well also normalization of relations with Serbia.

Minister Citaku stated at the meeting that: “Kosovo will fulfil its obligations on the record time by showing commitment on the fulfilment of all obligations in the context of European integration. Kosovo will cooperate closely with the German Government on the foreseen processes for 2013, which will have to finalize Kosovo’s integration path so that the people of Kosovo to have the same benefits from approximation with EU.

Minister Citaku also stated that: “Kosovo knows that the road is long, but there is political commitment in order to fight all the challenges that we will face during this process. In the following years, Kosovo will be a candidate for EU membership. Essential part of this process is the commitment to good neighbourly relations and meaningful dialogue with its neighbours. ”

While Mr. Çollaku stated that: “The process of normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia is fundamental contribution of the Republic of Kosovo for stability and progress in the Balkans. Germany’s support and leadership in this context is vital to the success and credibility of the dialogue. ”

German interlocutors expressed interest for the latest developments and the upcoming round of the dialogue. Secretary Haber assured German direct engagement and insistence on set conditions for the parties including the disintegration of parallel, respecting of entire territorial integrity.
