Prishtina, 24 February 2020 – Minister of European Integration, Mr. Blerim Reka, hosted today in a meeting the Ambassador of Italy to Kosovo, Nicola Orlando. Initially, Minister Reka expressed condolences to Ambassador Orlando for the Coronavirus victims in Italy and expressed the moral support in these hard times in which Italy is going through as a result of this disease.
Moreover, during the meeting it was discussed about the EU integration process of Kosovo. As recommended by Minister Reka, it is nonsense for the citizens of Kosovo to still remain isolated in an island of Schengen, without being able to move freely and without visa in Europe.
Also, Minister Reka sought to be the voice of Kosovo even to five states that have still not known Kosovo because, as Minister Reka stated, it is nonsense for a multilateral organization, such as EU, to undertake unilateral decisions, which are against the recognition of the Republic of Kosovo. This issue has been raised in particular because it hampers not only the integration process, but generally the process of other international recognitions of Kosovo. Minister Reka sought the support of Italy in the overall integration process, including the issue of preparation for application of Kosovo for the candidate status for accession to European Union.
Ambassador Orlando restated that Italy strongly denounces the statements of other states alleging that the Italy is against the integration processes of Kosovo and visa liberalization process. Indeed, the Italy always strongly supports Kosovo. Finally, Ambassador Orlandy reiterated that Italy will always be a friend country for Kosovo and its European integration aspirations.
