Following meeting of the working committee for visa liberalisation was held

May 3, 2013

Pristine May 3, 2013 – Today was held the following meeting of the working committee regarding Visa Liberalisation. Present at this meeting were: Kosovo`s Prime Minister, relevant Ministers, General Secretaries, and other competent officials. Discussion topic of today`s meeting was; next step and Evaluation Mission of the European Commission.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Thaçi congratulated Ministers and their staff for the job done so far, but at the same time requested additional work and commitment in order to intensify even more the progress in this process. Prime Minister added that we have no time for loosing and implementation of these reforms respectively criteria, must be met in record time frame. Among other, Prime Minister stated that “There is no other priority to be addressed prior this priority, there no funds to be spent prior to spending funds regarding this process, there are no other duties to be accomplished prior to this process”.

On her speech addressed to the attendees, Minister Çitaku talk about recent visit in Brussels and her meeting with Commissioner Malstrom, Commissioner Fule, MEP`s, representatives of EU Member States at the Working Group for the West Balkan Region (COWEB) and with the Director of the Justice Department within European Commission, Mrs. Le Biel. Minister Çitaku stated that: “During these meetings we have discussed different issues, however, at each meeting Visa Liberalisation was the focal point of the discussion, on this occasion we have informed them regarding work plan, it was handed one summary report regarding main achievements and requested acceleration of the Visa Liberalisation process”.

Minister Çitaku stated that during these visits is ensured a principal compliance with our requirements and we are promised that in June, once we have completed all the legal acts and bylaws, to hold the third meeting of senior officials on visa liberalisation. This meeting is crucial to complete the first phase, legislation phase, which means the period where the European Commission may engage to begin evaluating the implementation of criteria and implementation monitoring
