May 6, 2013

Pristine, May 6, 2013 – Minister of European Integration, Vlora Çitaku met with the Minister for European Affairs in the government of Denmark, Mr. Nicolai Wammen, to discuss the next steps regarding Kosovo’s European agenda.

On this occasion Minister Çitaku and Minister Wammen discussed in more details the support of the Danish government for Kosovo, in the negotiations of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement and Visa Liberalization process. Minister Çitaku assured the Danish Minister that all state institutions have established the European Agenda, and in particular the process of Visa Liberalization, in the centre of their daily work.

During the meeting, both ministers discussed the latest political developments in Kosovo, with particular focus on the dialogue for the normalization of relations between the Republic of Kosovo and Serbia. Related to this issue, it was discussed in particular for Kosovo`s European agenda, fulfilment of short-term criteria`s for starting negotiation for the Stabilisation and Association Agreement and the progress in fulfilling the criteria`s of the Visa Liberalization roadmap.

Minister Çitaku stated that: “it will be a long road and with many challenges, Kosovo needs to address  many problems which are accumulated for decades, but we are convinced that if we achieve to preserve internal political unity regarding the European  Agenda, and if we preserve the high level of commitment that we have demonstrated, particularly after the publication of the feasibility study and establishment of short-term criteria’s,  Kosovo will be able that in upcoming years to mark even more concrete steps toward EU membership.

Also, Kosovo should concentrate resources on its development policies and in reforms.

Kosovo and its citizens have already had many historic moments, the time has come to work for normality, reforms, development and integration “concluded Minister Çitaku.

Danish Minister, Wammen stated that; “I’m honoured to be back on a visit to Kosovo, especially in this historic moment after reaching the agreement between the Government of Kosovo and the Government of Serbia. We see this as a new beginning, an opportunity for cooperation, standardization and fulfilment of dreams not only for the future of new generations of Kosovo and Serbia, which would not only have the past as part of their lives, but now will look forward and move ahead with their future.  Seeing it from the Danish perspective, it is important to see this very important development because during the Danish Presidency we have worked hard to take the first important steps, and I am very happy that the commitment of the parties mediated by Baroness Ashton made possible the achievement of this agreement.

During the press conference both ministers addressed media interest in many topics also on reaching the agreement with Serbia, the issue of Visa Liberalization, which is very important for the citizens of Kosovo, where both ministers are quite optimistic that soon there will be advancement regarding this process.

Minister Çitaku thanked Minister Wammen for his commitment and the commitment of the Danish Government in supporting Kosovo and its institutions.
