Dynamic agenda for Visa Liberalization

Prishtina, February 20, 2014 – Organized by the Ministry of European Integration, the following meeting of the Working Group on visa liberalization was held in order to discuss on the Assessment Mission that will be staying in Kosovo during March to complete this mission.

Areas which will be covered in this phase are: “Integrated Border Management “, part of the second Block and the third Block “Security and Public Order “, in which occasion will be evaluated more complex areas of the visa liberalization process.

In her remarks, Minister Çitaku emphasized the importance and complexity of this evaluation mission and demanded all necessary preparations to be undertaken, she requested the collection and processing of all relevant statistical data, presentation of the work of local institutions ever since the beginning of the visa dialogue, in particular to set the focus on the presentation of trends and progress in multi-annual terms; as well as to present concrete plans how to address these issues even after visa liberalization.

Assessment (fact-finding) Mission that is expected to come to Kosovo during March will be interested in the implementation of international agreements, domestic laws, national strategies, with particular focus on the laws, strategies and agreements that have entered into force in this period.

Minister Çitaku addressed the audience, saying, “This assessment mission finds us prepared, you have done an excellent job and this work should be presented as best as possible.”

In addition, Minister Çitaku said: “The results and findings from this assessment mission determine the pace on finalizing the process and obtaining visa liberalization for Kosovo, therefore we must ensure that all information on the achievements of our country are identified and present them concisely before the assessment team”.

Whereas, on his part the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Bajram Rexhepi requested coherence in the reporting the statistics dealing with combating organized crime and reporting the implementation of legislative and strategic framework for integrated border management and public order and safety.

In the end, Minister Çitaku thanking everyone for the work done so far, invoked to continue the work that has been commenced in order to conclude this process as soon as possible, since it is a joint conclusion of all relevant actors that achievements are undeniable and it would be argued with the results that will be presented during the assessment mission.
