Denmark is attentively following developments in Kosovo

Prishtina, November 6, 2013 – Minister of European Integration, Vlora Çitaku hosted in a meeting Mr. Nick Haekkerup, Minister for Trade and European Affairs, as well the delegation composed of senior officials from the Government of Denmark. During the meeting, latest developments in Kosovo, were discussed, such as: Kosovo’s anticipations regarding commencing of negotiations for Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with the EU, the successful organization of the electoral process in Kosovo, creation of a new momentum for advancing relations with Serbia, Kosovo’s independence recognition process, and general reforms regarding Kosovo’s European agenda.

Minister Çitaku and Minister Haekkerup discussed over recent developments in our country and with special emphasis it was stressed the credibility that Kosovo gained by having positive approach towards normalization of relations with Serbia, fulfillment of criteria and commencing of negotiations for signing the SAA with the EU.

After the meeting, Minister Çitaku and Minister Haekkerup held a joint press conference.

Minister Çitaku stated that she informed Minister Haekkerup regarding successful realization of the elections in the entire territory of Kosovo, ” These elections are historic due to the fact that for the first time after 14 years, elections were held in the entire territory of Kosovo and for the first time we will have legitimate and legal institutions in the north part of the country.” 

Minister Çitaku stressed once again the importance of improving relations with Serbia, and stated that “Through dialogue, that is being held in Brussels led by Baroness Ashton, as well with signing the 19th of April agreement, Kosovo has raised its subjectivity, and made easier to European Union on taking the decision for launching negotiations for signing the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) between the European Union and Kosovo”.

Whereas, the Danish Minister, stated “I apprise the cooperation between Denmark and Kosovo also I would like to stress that Denmark is a supporter of Kosovo`s independence, and Kosovo’s path towards European Union. Also, we recognize the progress that Kosovo has managed to conduct throughout reforms, normalization of relations with Serbia, and we are aware that the road towards accession is long, but Kosovo it`s on the right path regarding this issue. We noted that you have taken quite courageous steps, and I want to rehearse that you will have Denmark`s continuous support”
