Pre-Accession Instrument (IPA)

The Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) is the mechanism by which the EU supports the reforms of the countries in the framework of the EU enlargement process, with financial and technical assistance since 2007. IPA funds increase the capacities of beneficiaries throughout the accession process, aiming to improve the situation in these countries.

For the 2007-2013 period, IPA I had a budget of 11.5 billion Euros, while for the 2014-2020 period IPA II had a budget of 12.8 billion Euros. For the IPA III period (2021-2027), the EU has budgeted 14.2 billion Euros.
