EU Visa Liberalization Dialogue: Minister Ҫitaku and Minister Rexhepi met with senior officials of the European Commission in Brussels

Brussels, 16 June 2014 – Today, the fourth meeting of high-level officials on Visa Liberalization Dialogue between the Republic of Kosovo and the European Commission, is held. The delegation of Kosovo Government in this meeting was led by Ministry of European Integration Mrs. Vlora Ҫitaku and Minister of Interior, Mr. Bajram Rexhepi, whereas the European Commission was represented by the Director General for Internal Affairs, Mr. Matthias Ruete, Head of the EU Office in Kosovo, Mr. Samuel Zbogar, Director for Western Balkans of the DG ENLARG, Mr. Jean Eric Paquet and other European Commission officials.

This meeting is part of regular meetings, between the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and the European Commission, for discussion on all matters related to meeting the criteria derived from visa liberalization roadmap.

At today’s meeting, the Commission gave its preliminary assessments based on assessment missions that took place earlier this year, and provided an opportunity that the Kosovo delegation to supplement with the latest achievements in meeting all blocks of Visa liberalization roadmap, including the reintegration of repatriated persons, fight against organized crime and corruption, inter-institutional cooperation in the field of law and order, economic crimes, legal cooperation, and fundamental rights.

After the meeting, Minister of European Integration, Mrs. Vlora Ҫitaku stated: “Today we had a successful meeting with the Director General, Mr. Ruete, and other European Commission officials, and we  are encouraged by their assessments of the achievements that Kosovo has made recently on fulfilling obligations deriving from visa liberalization process. It is a common estimation that Kosovo is in the final stage of this dialogue. It is important to continue with the high performance of institutions at both central and local level for free movement of Kosovo citizens without further delays. “
