West Balkans Investment Framework Steering Committee

Berlin, 11-12 June 2014 – Under the auspices of the German Ministry of Finance and the European Commission on 11-12 June, X meeting of the Steering Committee of Western Balkans Investment Framework – WBIF was held in Berlin.

During the meeting, the Steering Committee reviewed and approved projects submitted within the XI round of application, as well as discussed the further evolution of WBIF.

In this round (XI), Kosovo has applied with two projects:

1. Updating Feasibility Study, Environmental Impact Assessment and Preliminary Design for the construction of highway (SEETO route 7) section E, Prishtina – Merdare (23 km). SEETO Route 7 links the corridor X with Albanian highway and provides strategic road link of Kosovo with the region and the European Union. Route 7 is envisaged as a priority within the Multi-Modal Transport Strategy.

The project will be supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The initial grant in the amount of € 500,000 will be provided by the European Western Balkan Joint Fund (EWBJF).

2. Updating Feasibility Study, Environmental Impact Assessment and Preliminary Design for the construction of highway N9 Prishtina – Peja (SEETO Route 6B) section Kijeva-Klina-Peja (30km). SEETO Route 6B links Prishtina with Peja and Montenegro.  Route 6B is envisaged as a priority within the Multi-Modal Transport Strategy.

The project will be supported by the European Investment Bank (EIB). The initial grant in the amount of € 800,000 will be provided by the European Western Balkan Joint Fund (EWBJF

General information on the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF)

Western Balkans Investment Framework aims to improve cooperation and increase the financial capacities for investments contributing to the development and socio-economic advancement of the integration process of the Western Balkans. Institutions that contribute with financial resources within the framework are: the European Commission, the Development Bank of the Council of Europe, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, European Investment Bank, the German Development Bank, World Bank and bilateral donors.

The framework focuses on key Western Balkans economy sectors, such as: energy, environment, transportation, social issues and the development of private sector.
