There will be sufficient arguments to convince anyone that Kosovo deserves to be a member of the European family

Prishtina, September 9, 2013 – Minister of European Integration, Mrs. Vlora Çitaku hosted today, Professor.Dr. Mr. Rainer Lindner, executive director of the Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations (OST – Ausschuss der deutschen Wirtschaft), and two other members of his delegation; Mr. Helge Tolksdorf, and Mrs, Anja Quiring accompanied from the German Ambassador in Kosovo, Dr. Blomeyer with whom they discussed the current issues in Kosovo and in the region. Also, they discussed the economic development of Kosovo and the preparation for commencing the negotiations for the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA), and for the advancement of Kosovo in the Visa Liberalization process.

Among other things, it was discussed on the current challenges of the Republic of Kosovo before the next elections; the priorities of the Republic of Kosovo referring to European Integration and advancing the bilateral relations, with particular emphasis in the development of economic relations between Kosovo and Germany.

On this occasion Minister Çitaku stated that: “SAA for Kosovo is of particular importance as a tool of anchoring Kosovo`s European path, but above all it contributes Kosovo toward the implementation of the state wide sustainable reform. The Minister emphasized that the commencing of negotiations finds Kosovo very prepared as a result of a prior work performed from all of the institutions of the country. Whereas, regarding visa liberalization process, Minister Çitaku informed the delegation for the course of fulfilling the criteria’s and recommendation arising from the roadmap for visa liberalization, regional cooperation and improvement of neighbourly relations as criteria for advancing European Integration”.

In addition, Minister Çitaku said: “Kosovo will produce sufficient arguments through which will facilitate Germany`s attempts to convince anyone that needs to be convinced that Kosovo deserves to be a member of the European family. Regarding to Kosovo`s path toward integration, we do not intend to seek a shorter path, but we request from EU to appreciate the work that we are doing together in fulfilling the criteria’s, whether from the feasibility study or from the Roadmap for Visa Liberalization”.

On his part Dr. Lindner stated that: The German Government will strongly support Kosovo on her path toward its full membership in the European Union. He also congratulated the institution of the Republic of Kosovo for the preparation done for commencing the Stabilization and Association Agreement. As well as their commitment in addressing the criteria’s and recommendation arising from the Roadmap for Visa Liberalization
