The Kosovo Government marked the 10th anniversary of its cooperation with Japan

Prishtina, 19 March 2019 – The Ministry of European Integration (MEI), in cooperation with JICA Association Alumni of Kosovo, representing the former Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) trainers, marked the 10th anniversary of the cooperation between Kosovo and JICA.

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of European Integration, Kushtrim Cukaj opened the meeting by emphasizing that during these 10 years of cooperation, Kosovo has had a significant support from Japan.

“The amount of projects reaches the value of EUR 17 million. We have more than 360 trainees from Kosovo in JICA’s programs in Japan on institutional capacity building. Participants in training have learned a lot from the experiences gained in Japan”, emphasized Mr. Cukaj considering the support as welcomed for the Kosovo institutions.

In the marking of the 10th anniversary of cooperation, Mr. Takeuchi, Minister at the Japanese Embassy in Vienna, Mr. Kobayashi, JICA’s main representative for the Balkans and Ms. Hakaj, Chairperson of JICA also took the floor, while Mr. Malazogu, Ambassador of Kosovo to Japan greeted the gathering by a video message.

Government officials and participants of training programs at JICA also participated in the marking of the 10th anniversary of the cooperation with JICA.
While “Tefta Tashko” music school students and Kosovo Philharmonic participated with a musical performance and a short film “The 10-year journey of JICA Alumni Association of Kosovo” was shown for the participants”.

Finally, a technical session was held on how to renew ideas for Kosovo’s needs based on past experience of cooperation with JICA.

JICA is a governmental organization that supports developing countries through technical cooperation, grant assistance and concessionary loans. As far as Kosovo is concerned, JICA has provided technical support for the grant cooperation and assistance with a total of 2.14 billion Japanese yen (€ 16.95 million) from 2019 fiscal year. Over 360 citizens of Kosovo have gone to Japan for training programs and are now actively applying the knowledge and experience gained from Japan in Kosovo.
