Prishtina, 23 February 2017 – Today, at the premises of the EU Culture and Information Centre was held a conference to launch a Multimedia and Outreach Campaign on Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA). This campaign is cooperation between the Ministry for European Integration and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Office in Kosovo.
Campaign was presented to the media interested to attend this press conference. Minister of European Integration, Mimoza Ahmetaj, Head of the European Union, at the same time as a EU Special Representative, Ms Nataliya Apostolova, as well as UN Development Coordinator and the UNDP Resident Representative in Kosovo, Mr Andrew Rusell, held a speech upon official lunching of this Campaign.
During the conference Minister Ahmetaj spoke about the importance of communication of the SAA to the citizens, since this is a process that is composed of total 35 Chapters and relates to many fields of the society that are affected by this process. “;Almost one year following the entry into force of SAA, we have seen that it is essential to launch this campaign that would bring SAA closer to the ordinary citizens, different profiles in Kosovo, or put otherwise, translate SAA into practical terms for the citizens”;, stated Minister Ahmetaj.
While, Head of the EU Office in Kosovo/EUSR, Nataliya Apostolov, welcomed the launching of this Outreach campaign on SAA which will make the Agreement tangible to Kosovo citizens. She emphasized that as much as Kosovo implements the SAA, standards will approximate its standards to those of EU member states. “;Implementation of the SAA is a process in which everyone in Kosovo must be fully committed and engaged. If the agreement is properly implemented, it means that many issues of importance to citizens, businesses, students, your children or your grandparents will be addressed and more reforms will take place”;, stated Apostolova.
On his part, UNDP Resident Representative in Kosovo, Mr. Andrew Russell, stated: “;Based on the successful cooperation over the years between MIE and the UNDP on implementation of the SAA criteria’s, UNDP continued to support Ministry in implementation of obligations deriving from SAA. In order to further increase the awareness of Kosovo citizens and institutions on various aspects of SAA context, and the obligations attached to EU integration, we have developed this Multi-media campaign as a mechanism to provide effective and strategic information. UNDP believes that similar initiatives that aim awareness raising, promotion of inclusiveness and transparency are an added value to the overall efforts of the Kosovo institutions towards the implementation of Kosovo`s priorities focused on public administration reform and in European integration process “;.
This campaign will include several multimedia materials that incite the interest of the citizens to pay attention and understand more regarding fields within SAA and that may improve their livelihoods. More campaigns and other activities will be organized throughout the SAA implementation process.
Also the topics addressed under this Campaign are as follows; what exactly does SAA mean for businesses, students, farmers, Rule of Law and in general what it means for the citizens. These are some of the groups that are directly affected, since SAA implementation covers a 10 year period, and since we are talking about a long period, other categories will come later and will be treated during the next campaigns.
This campaign will take place for five weeks and aims to further increase the level of knowledge of the citizens of Kosovo and institutions in various aspects of the SAA process and its implementation.
