More effective coordination in access to EU programmes

February 20, 2017

Prishtina, 20 February 2017– Today, took place the consultative meeting in light of access of the Republic of Kosovo to EU programmes. Meeting was chaired by the Minister of the Ministry for European Integration, Mrs. Mimoza Ahmetaj, whereas participants where civil society representatives.

Mrs. Ahmetaj upon her speech mentioned the Framework Agreement on access of Kosovo to EU programmes, which was signed on November 25, 2016. The agreement provides access to 17 different EU programs in the fields of education, research, support to private sector, support for civil society, as well as other areas.”;The Ministry of European Integration is organizing meetings with the business community, academia, civil society and other potential beneficiaries to discuss in which programmes Kosovo can have greater benefits.”;

During the meeting, was pointed out that signing of the agreement for EU programmes brings Kosovo closer to EU and complements the implementation of the Stabilization and Association Agreement. The purpose of this program is to promote cooperation between the countries and citizens of Western Balkan with EU countries and citizens in various fields.

Minister Ahmetaj stated that the EU has foreseen a funding for the period 2014-2020. The benefit from these programs is not easy, and in order to access one must pay the entry ticket in order to be able to participate in each program. Success in these programs is not guaranteed, because the project proposals from Kosovo are in direct competition with all Western Balkan countries and EU countries. She also stated that participation in these programs requires consolidated administrative capacities to deal with technical criteria’s required by the EU. Therefore, one shall prudently consider the participation to the programmes of special importance, and with feasible cost.

Based on today’s discussion, Minister Ahmetaj will continue further discussions with the European Commission Services in order to concretize Kosovo’s participation in special programs, and to ensure effective participation in EU programs, the stakeholders will by duly informed.
