Prishtina, 6 March 2020 – Minister of European Integration, Blerim Reka, hosted today the UN Development Coordinator in Kosovo, Ulrika Richardson.
During this meeting, Ms Richardson informed Minister Reka of the current commitments and reforms undertaken by the UN and its agencies, assessing this as an important step to strengthen the role and better coordination of the country’s institutions and of the 15 agencies present in the country, in the framework of the United Nations.
Minister Reka informed Ms Richardson of the current developments under the European agenda, his priorities to lead the European integration process and the Program of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo.
Minister Reka expressed his commitment to cooperate and support any project that is in favour of strengthening the role of Kosovo institutions and the cooperation with UN Agencies, a mechanism which is necessary to increase efficiency and better address the interests of the society, all this while focusing on specific topics and concrete results in the fields of education, gender equality, protection of human rights, empowerment of women’s role, better inclusion of minorities and other important aspects of the society.
They also emphasized the importance of the cooperation and of the continuity established through the Memorandum signed on 15 November 2018 between the Ministry of European Integration and the UN Development Coordinator Office, which foresees mutual reinforcement of the advancement with the European agenda and global norms of the United Nations for Good Governance, as well as the 2030 Agenda, namely the Sustainable Development Goals. UN agencies, which are coordinated by the Development Coordinator Office, have an annual budget of tens of millions.
