Minister Hoxha: We support corporate social responsibility in the function of the integration process

Prishtina, 19 December 2017 – At the meeting held at Kosovo Chamber of Commerce at the Kosovo CSR Network meeting, Minister of European Integration, Dhurata Hoxha, emphasized the importance of corporate social responsibility, noting that the initiative taken by Kosovo CSR Network will be a step further towards re-actualizing this topic and the Minister invited institutional stakeholders to play a more active role.

“Particular attention should be paid to cooperation between the public and private sector. Challenges to be addressed through corporate social responsibility such as human rights, workers’ rights, environmental protection, combating corruption and various issues of a social character are also challenges for the public sector”, stated Minister Hoxha adding that the government sector plays a very important role by helping enterprises to empower social responsibility and by making their impact on social life be in function of the country’s development.

Minister Hoxha focused on the importance of corporate social responsibility for the European integration process and her dedication to the dynamism of the integration process.

“We are all aware that there is currently no priority which is more important than the integration into the European Union for Kosovo. In this regard, European legislation and practices are strong supporters of corporate social responsibility. In this regard, the harmonization of Kosovo’s legislation with that of the EU is our duty and priority. In this respect, I consider that we must all work together to adopt EU legislation and practices on corporate social responsibility”, said Minister Hoxha.

The Minister emphasized that the EU Strategy in this area is based on several key pillars, such as: corporate social responsibility expansion, increased trust in businesses, improved internal business regulation, disclosure of information related to social and environmental issues and the uncontested role of education, research and training on this topic.

The Minister noted that the strategic plan developed by the Kosovo CSR Network has foreseen key points that are in line with European practices. However, I consider that we need a clear vision and see how we will move forward with the creation of a comprehensive country-wide strategy for corporate social responsibility.

The more efficient and quick we are in adopting EU legislation and practices, the sooner we can be part of this European family, pointed out Minister Hoxha, adding that corporate social responsibility should be seen from the perspective of multiple benefits ranging from our citizens, enterprises and the country’s economic development in general.

“The integration process requires the engagement of all citizens, institutions, civil society and the media. Every action done with the aim to enhance the respecting of human rights, in particular workers’ rights, environmental protection and combating corruption is in the function of the welfare of our citizens and the development of our country, which are key aspects to become part of common European values”, emphasized Minister Hoxha.

Minister Hoxha appraised the initiative and expressed the commitment of the Ministry of European Integration to become part of the process of advancing corporate social responsibility in Kosovo, putting particular emphasis on its importance for European integration.
