Minister Hoxha: We need EU support for visa liberalization

Brussels, 21 November 2018 – Minister of European Integration, Dhurata Hoxha, was hosted in a meeting by Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos, who is responsible for Migration, Internal Affairs and Citizenship, and on this occasion stressed the importance of free movement for Kosovo citizens.

“We have been committed, since the day of receiving the visa liberalization roadmap, in 2012, in the central and local level, for prompt implementation of the liberalization criteria, said Minister Hoxha.

Minister Hoxha stated that “We, together, have reached this point, and now, we expect from you and the decision-making instances to influence and provide the support of the Council of Ministers to lift the limitation of free movement, so the citizens of Kosovo can be equal and enjoy the free movement, along with other citizens of the Balkans and Europe.

EU Commissioner for Internal Affairs, Dimitris Avramopoulos, has praised and welcomed Kosovo’s commitment and of institutions for lobbying and receiving support from individual countries for the pro vote at the meeting of the Council of Ministers. He stressed that the fulfilment of the criteria for visa liberalization has been confirmed by the Commission, as well as with the decision of the European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties (LIBE), and the vote in the European Parliament.

He reconfirmed his full support for visa liberalization at the decision-making bodies in Brussels for voting pro at the meeting of Council of Ministers that will be held in early December.
