Minister Hoxha met with Minister Matoshi: Let’s increase the dynamics of implementing the projects from the EU funds

March 11, 2019

Prishtina, 11 March 2019 – After meeting with the Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning, the Minister of European Integration, Dhurata Hoxha, emphasized before the media the purpose of the meeting.

“At today’s meeting with Minister Matoshi, we discussed the importance of EU projects in the country’s overall development, with special emphasis on improving the environment. Our common goal is to increase our commitment and dynamics in this regard in order to contribute to improving the environmental situation in Kosovo. Construction of the landfill for hazardous waste, the Kosovo A decommissioning and the installation of filters for Kosovo B are projects that exceed the amount of over EUR 100 million”, stressed Minister Hoxha.

Kosovo is not “losing” the millions donated by the EU, Minister Hoxha noted.
“Let me inform you that Kosovo has not lost even a single cent of the funds donated by the EU, on the contrary, since I got this post, EU funds have only increased and did not decrease at all.
The Minister then spoke about IPA 2016 and IPA 2017 funds.

“Both contracts are being implemented as planned, while we are in full compliance with the contractual deadlines and Kosovo has not lost even a single cent in this regard. At the latest by June 2019, the EU will start evaluating the fulfilment of the indicators foreseen in these contracts in order to then begin with the allocation of funds”, said Minister Hoxha.

EU funds for Kosovo have only increased. Thus, IPA 2017 has allocated EUR 73 million, IPA 2018 has allocated EUR 90.5 million, and IPA 2019-2020 has allocated over EUR 200 million.

In addition to IPA funds, Kosovo also receives funds from the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF). Only in this round of applications, i.e. the 21st round of applications, the value of infrastructure projects exceeds EUR 250 million. Construction of wastewater treatment plants, drinking water plants and water collectors in Kosovo’s large and small regions exceeds EUR 400 million.

In the end, Minister Matoshi and Minister Hoxha jointly answered the questions of the journalists present. The questions were related to the integration process, the EU funds and projects, as well as the priorities in this area.
