Prishtina, 20 December 2018 – During the event for presentation of the preliminary design of the Prishtina – Merdare Highway, which was attended by the Minister Pal Lekaj and managers of this project, the Minister of European Integration, Dhurata Hoxha, mentioned the importance of EU projects in Kosovo.
“The strategic goal of Kosovo is membership to European Union,” stated Minister Hoxha. From 1999 to date, Kosovo was integral part of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe, then with Stabilisation and Association Process, Western Balkans Investment Framework, Berlin Process and many other regional initiatives.
“Berlin Process proved to be a positive contribution at the right time for the EU approximation and enlargement agenda, by reducing transport cost, ensuring energy supply, establishing long-term business partnerships and technology transfer” pointed out Minister Hoxha and added that Berlin Process enables the link between economies of Western Balkans and EU, and the construction of the road presented today is in view of connectivity agenda.
This and a series of other infrastructural project expected to begin, have impact on economic development of the country, pointed out the minister, and will also impact the overall regional development.
“Kosovo institutions, despite recent developments, remain deeply committed for implementation of SAA, whose effective implementation will surely advance the entire process of Kosovo integration in Europe,” highlighted Minister Hoxha, mentioning reforms undertaken so far, fight against corruption and organized crime.
In the end of her speech, Minister Hoxha thanked EU for projects and for the road Prishtina – Merdare, expressing the commitment for fulfilling mutual obligations.
