Prishtina, 11 July 2019 – In her lecture delivered before the students of the Kosovo International Summer Academy 2019, the Minister of European Integration, Dhurata Hoxha, presented the future vision for the country and the commitment to join the family of nations of the European Union.
This Academy has gathered 55 students from prestigious universities of 30 countries around the world and focuses on “;Peace building in post-conflict areas – Diplomacy, Leadership and Negotiations”;.
The Minister said that the European agenda is an agenda that unites us all, regardless of ethnic, religious or political affiliation. This is a path that requires our strongest efforts to accelerate the pace of internal reforms.
“;We know very well that history can divide people, especially in our region. That is why we have to make history while working together for a better future. And, the best way for us to achieve this as individual countries, but also as a region, is being equal members within the EU”;, said Minister Hoxha.
In her speech, Minister Hoxha mentioned the signing of SAA, reforms – including measures to strengthen rule of law, foster economic development and foster regional cooperation.
With regard to visa liberalization, she noted that the decision on visa liberalization lies in the hands of the Council of Ministers. The visa regime is mostly affecting our young people who are being deprived of the enjoyment and embrace of European values as their peers in the region.
“;The lifting of the visa regime has a direct impact on fostering the economy and partnerships, promoting the cultural contacts and increasing the professional and educational exchange. A viable EU perspective for the Western Balkans is key to ensuring peace and stability in the region”;, said the Minister and added that we need a EU that is more focused on the region.
We appreciate the investments of EU member states in the progress of our country and we are determined to continue the difficult but necessary work for reforms, noted Minister Hoxha, adding that we will continue our work on strengthening our democratic institutions, promoting free speech and maintaining equal rights for all our citizens, indiscriminately.
Finally, Summer Academy students asked Minister Hoxha questions and highly praised Kosovo and its achievements.
