Minister Çollaku: The Government will push forward employment and the European agenda

Brussels, 10 February 2015 – Minister of European Integration, Bekim Çollaku, today participated in a discussion held at the European Policy Centre in Brussels whereby presented on current developments in Kosovo and key issues in development of our country.

Upon this occasion, Minister Çollaku discussed the signing of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with the EU and the completion of the visa liberalization process. Minister of European Integration also focused on the continuation of high-level talks on the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia as well as on implementation of the Brussels agreement of 2013. Addressing of unemployment rate, social discontent, as well as strengthening of fight against corruption in order to encourage foreign investment, the government’s plan for economic development and other steps to be taken to push forward the comprehensive reforms, where some of special topic amongst many other topics discussed upon this occasion.

Minister Çollaku spoke also on priorities of the new government, the Economic Development and generation of new jobs. Whereas, special attention was given to recent irregular migration phenomena as well on regards to added measures being currently undertaken by institutions to stop this painful and negative phenomena in our society.

“The Government`s focus on economic development shall result in reduction of unemployment rate. There is still a need to further improve the doing business environment. From our perspective, we want to improve it by further strengthening the judiciary, addressing property rights, enforcing contracts, also by continuing to reducing bureaucratic procedures and further simplifying the rules for startup businesses. This year we are focusing on the completion of two key processes, SAA and visa liberalization that will anchor Kosovo in its path towards EU.” stated Minister Çollaku.

While concluding, Minister Çollaku reiterated that there is no doubt that Kosovo have a great potential for transformation. Therefore, the EU should start to see Kosovo and the region as an area of interest for trade, investment and business opportunities.
