Strasbourg 13 April 2016 – The Minister of European Integration, Mr. Bekim Çollaku, during his official visit to Strasbourg held a separate meeting with the Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Mr. Johannes Hahn and with the Vice-President of European Parliament and rapporteur for Kosovo in EP, Mrs. Ulrike Lunacek.
A topic of discussion in these meetings was the advancement of the European agenda in Kosovo and in particular conclusion of the visa liberalization process for Kosovars.
During the meeting, Minister Çollaku emphasized that Kosovo institutions have fulfilled the obligations laid down for visa liberalization and are now awaiting a meritorious decision by the EU institutions.
“The institutions and citizens of Kosovo are expecting to receive positive recommendations so they can travel without visas to the Schengen Area countries as soon as possible. We have made a long journey in this process, and due to this we have achieved a series of beneficial reforms for our country. However, now is the time to see the final result which would place our country in the same position as all neighbouring countries and beyond. Based on the performance, I am convinced that the visa liberalization is very close and it is a matter that will be concluded within few months “, stated Minister Çollaku
During the meeting, it was also discussed about the entry into force and implementation of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement. The interlocutors praised the joint efforts that led to the signing and entry into force of the SAA, by emphasizing the need to implement obligations and reforms foreseen within the defined deadlines.
