Brussels, 13 February 2014 – Today in Brussels, Minister for European Integration, Mrs. Vlora Çitaku and Minister for Internal Affairs, Mr. Bajram Rexhepi met with the EU Commissioner for Home Affairs, Mrs.Cecilia Malmström. Today`s meeting focus was on the developments in Visa Liberalization between the EU and Kosovo.
Minister informed the commissioner for numerous developments in the implementation of reforms and completion of criteria`s for each of the areas of the Roadmap for Visa Liberalization. Mostly were presented the achievements in the area of repatriation, reintegration, integrated border management, combating organized crime and corruption. It also was discussed about the irregular migration and the challenges which our country is facing. In this regard they discussed about the joint work in the weeks and months to come and the mutual commitment to this important process was reconfirmed.
Ministers requested from the Commissioner to increase the dynamics of the exchange between Kosovo and the EU to mark the achieved developments and to conclude the process as soon as possible with a positive recommendation for Visa Liberalization for Kosovo based on the fulfilment of the technical criteria.
As an upcoming step, it was informed that during March, a new expert`s mission will be arriving in Kosovo to assess the remaining fields of the Roadmap for Visa Liberalization.
