Irregular Migration is not worth it

Fushe Kosove, March 28, 2014 – Ministry of European Integration within the information campaign on the Visa Liberalization process, today, held its regular meeting with the citizens of the municipality of Obilic with whom they discussed in detail the process and criteria that Kosovo must fulfil regarding Visa Liberalization. The organization of these informational meetings is conducted in cooperation with the Swiss Cooperation Office in Kosovo.

Within the comprehensive campaign for Visa Liberalization process, meetings with the municipalities have commenced with the municipality of Mitrovica, to continue with the municipality of Fushe Kosova, whereas today`s meeting was with the municipality of Obiliq, within this cycle, the following informational meeting is in the municipality of Ferizaj on April 4, 2014.

The purpose of these meetings is to provide citizens the opportunity to be directly informed and communicate with the panellists, who are officials directly involved and informed regarding the details about Visa Liberalization process and relevant topics such as irregular migration and reintegration of repatriated persons. In today`s panel to communicate with the citizens was Mr. Besnik Vasolli, Technical Coordinator for Visa Liberalization, in the Ministry of European Integration. Mr. Vasolli stated that:” After receiving the roadmap, the Ministry of European Integration has significantly intensified communication with citizens and since 2012 has commenced the informational campaign followed by different activities to sensitize the citizens.

Activities which will enable citizens to be closely informed regarding the three main pillars in which the informational campaign is focused so far, and those pillars are; irregular migration, reintegration of repatriated persons and the duties and responsibilities of each citizen after Visa Liberalization”.

Mr. Vasolli, addressed those present with an appeal that: “no citizen of Kosovo should undertake the risk of irregular migration and all of us together should contribute to the Visa Liberalization process.”

Whereas, Artan Duraku from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, said that: “Every citizen of Kosovo should be aware on the consequences deriving from irregular migration, and for this we can be based in the examples from the countries of the region “.

Later on, he said that: “Ministry of Internal Affairs, has a particular department which deals with repatriated persons, however, we encourage all municipalities to be engaged in maximum, for these issues to be decentralized, in order to facilitate the process”.

Kushtrim Mirena, Official for European Integration in the municipality of Obiliq, said that: “Office for European Integration in the municipality of Obiliq cooperates closely with all institutions involved in the process, in order to fulfil the criteria regarding these processes”, he than stated: “In the municipality of Obiliq, since 2010, have been reintegrated around 55 families with 185 members in total.”

Whereas, from the civil society, Mentor Vrajolli said:
“based on the researches conducted regarding the visa liberalization process, Kosovo is working very hard on the fulfilment of the criteria set in the roadmap “.
