Prishtina, 29 April 2016 – The Ministry of European Integration in cooperation with the Ministry of Local Government Administration and with the support of German Government Organization for International Cooperation GIZ, held today an informational conference with municipalities of Prishtina region, titled “Stabilisation and Association Agreement Kosovo – EU and its implementation”.
The purpose of this conference was to discuss about the importance of the SAA, the steps that will be taken towards its implementation and the roles and obligations of Kosovo municipalities in this regard.
On this occasion, Deputy Minister of European Integration, Mr. Ramadan Ilazi emphasized that the Stabilization and Association Agreement is a historical agreement, a contract for the future of our country and for the overall development of the society.
“Implementation of the SAA is our focus, because only by implementing the SAA, we will approximate our country with the European Union and in doing so we will strengthen the rule of law and the economy.
Membership in the European Union is an absolute national priority for Republic of Kosovo, which enjoys the support from the entire society and the political spectrum”, stated Deputy Minister Ilazi. He also spoke about the National Programme for the Implementation of the SAA, which focuses on three strategic aspects of Kosovo’s membership in EU that relate to the fulfilment of the obligations of SAA, approximation of national legislation with EU acquis and implementation of approximated legislation – through the advancement of policies, institutional reforms and capacity building. Present in the discussion panel of the conference was also the Deputy Minister of Local Government Administration, Mr. Bajram Gecaj, Head of Political, Economic and European Integration Section from the Office of the European Union in Kosovo Mr. Thomas Gnocchi and Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia in Kosovo Mrs. Marija Kapitanoviq. The conference continued with the presentations by representatives of the Ministry of European Integration regarding the obligations as well as political and economic benefits that derive from the Stabilisation and Association Agreement.
