Hungary supports Kosovo in the process of European integration and visa liberalization

Budapest, 9 November 2015 – Minister of European Integration, Mr. Bekim Çollaku met today in Budapest with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Mr. Peter Szijjártó.

At the beginning of this meeting, Minister Çollaku thanked Minister Szijjártó, for the contribution that Hungary has provided to Kosovo through bilateral cooperation as well as through its presence in KFOR and EULEX missions.

Minister Çollaku thanked Minister Szijjártó for voting in favour and support provided for Kosovo’s membership in UNESCO.

Minister Çollaku discussed with the chief of Hungarian diplomacy for Kosovo’s integration process in the EU, focusing on visa liberalization. As the leader of this process, Minister Çollaku, noted that Kosovo has met all the criteria set and it expects this year to have a positive recommendation by the EU, thereby enabling Kosovo citizens visa-free movement in the countries of Schengen zone, starting in 2016.

Mr. Szijjártó also congratulated Minister Çollaku for signing the Stabilization and Association Agreement between Kosovo and the EU, stressing that the only way forward for stability and development in the Western Balkans is integration of all countries in the European Union.

During this meeting, ministers Szijjártó and Çollaku agreed on the need to deepen economic cooperation between the two countries, now that the SAA is signed, paving the way for the increased trade exchange and investments between the two countries.
