Deputy Minister requires Denmark’s support to the EU

Copenhagen 11th April 2013 – Deputy Minister of European Integration Mr. Gëzim Kasapolli visited Denmark where in this occasion has been hosted by Danish Minister for European Affairs Mr. Nicolai Wammen. During the meeting has been discussed about bilateral discussion, Kosovo integration in EU, developments in the region, cooperation within international organizations, etc.

In this case Minister Wammen informed Deputy Minister Kasapolli for the commitment that Danish Government has for development and bringing good neighbour relations for all countries in the Western Balkans, in particular the relations between Kosovo and Serbia as two countries emerging from war.

Z. Wammen continued by saying that Kosovo has achieved great successes in building of a sustainable and functional state, and at the same times it continuous to be committed for a dialogue and improvement of the relations with Serbia in order to develop a better and joint future for the citizens of both countries. Furthermore, by fulfilling primary conditions for integration in the European family which are building of good neighbour relations in the region.

Deputy Minister Kasapolli appreciated Denmark’s help and assistance to Kosovo in the recent years and which still continues, an assistance that has its important contribution in the consolidation of the democracy and state building, market economy and interethnic relations.

Deputy Minister Kasapolli continued saying that the Government of Kosovo is fully committed in order to regulate relations with Serbia. In addition, its simultaneously working with a large commitment to meet all the criteria for European Integration, in order to be equal with other countries in the region and to prove before EU member states that there is no reason that Kosovo remains as a black hole in the Balkans, but should receive same treatment as any other aspiring country for the integration in the EU. Therefore, the Government of Kosovo with all its potential continues to work in meeting priorities for the Stabilization and Association Agreement between Kosovo and EU and that result are expected soon.

The next day, Deputy Minister Kasapolli participated in the debate “One European neighbourhood on the move” organised on the occasion of promotion of Strategy for the Danish Neighbourhood Programme 2013-17

In this debate Deputy Minister of the Ministry of European Integration in Kosovo, Mr. Kasapolli talked about Building of a New State-Kosovo: Challenges ahead in the process of EU integration, the Strategy of Kosovo Development- needs and priorities as well as expectations for a closer cooperation with Denmark, and other international countries.

Other participants in the debate were the Minister for Development and Cooperation, Mr. Christian Friis Bach, who spoke about the importance of a new Neighbourhood Strategy, a well articulated and focussed programme in order to achieve greater success.

In addition, as a panellist in the debate was also the Minister for European Affairs Mr. Nicolai Wammen to discuss political challenges of Western Balkans and other partner countries, as well as Eastern partner countries in the EU integration process.
