In round VIII Kosovo has applied with three national projects, from which two have been approved; one in the social sector and one in energy sector. Approved projects are: Education improvement in Kosovo and the Feasibility Study on changing the fuels used for heat and expansion of heating system for the city of Gjakova. Approved projects will be supported from World Bank (WB) and German Development Bank (KfW). Grants will be provided from the European Western Balkans Joint Fund (EWBJF).
Total amount of two projects which will be implemented through grants is €850,000. These grants will open the door for potential investments in amount of 9.15 million Euro.
General information on the Western Balkan Investment Framework (WBIF)
Western Balkan Investment Framework aims to raise the capacities for investments that contribute in social-economical development and advancement of the integrating process for Western Balkans. Institutions that contribute with financial resources within the framework are: European Commission, Council of European Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, European Investment Bank, German Development Bank, World Bank and other bilateral donors.
The framework is focused in key sections of Western Balkans Economy including: energy, environment, transportation, social issues and private sector development. Projects have to be supported and submitted by the IPA National Coordinator of the Respective Country.
