Minister Hoxha: European Integration, our main priority

May 4, 2018

Prishtina, 4 May 2018 – Upon marking the 10th anniversary of Germany-Kosovo diplomatic relations, under the slogan “Youngest European Democracy: Independence, Pluralism, and Integration”, the Minister of European Integration, Ms. Dhurata Hoxha, emphasised that “Kosovo must focus in strengthening rule of law, security and migration, social and economic development, and its relations to neighbouring countries”.

The meeting held on this jubilee anniversary, organized by the German Embassy, was opened by Ambassador Christian Heldt, and attended by Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, former-President Jahjaga, and renowned local personalities and the diplomatic corps.

Minister Hoxha on her speech emphasised that Germany is a very important partner for Kosovo, and amongst most important voices promoting our country’s European integration.

“In the last 10 years we have gone through an economic, political and social transition, however, throughout this journey there was one thing on which we all stood united as a country, and that was the European perspective”, stated Minister Hoxha.

One of the challenges we have faced in the last few years, stated minister Hoxha, was visa liberalisation, and despite the challenges, our people never doubted European values, or stopped from working toward accession and respecting such values.

“We have made progress, but there still a lot of work to be done on our path toward integration. An important part of this progress was the signing of the SAA, which is the first contractual relation with the EU”, stated Minister Hoxha, adding that the SAA helps implement European standards in different fields, and economic development as well.

Special attention is paid to the financial assistance received by the EU, whereby the support to judicial and prosecutorial system, support of small and medium enterprises in agriculture and education sector, improvement of environment and securing sustainable energy supply in accordance with European standards are a priority.

“All fields in which the European Commission Strategy requires focus and progress are necessary for Kosovo. The fact that such fields have been expressively mentioned must mobilize our institutions in working more intensively on the reforms”, stated Minister Hoxha, strongly believing that Kosovo must not have any priority of higher importance than the integration process, considering that our country’s future is integration in the European family.
