Albania-Kosovo European Agenda Cooperation strengthened

Tirana, January 12, 2015 – Today, within the state visit to Tirana, Minister Çollaku and the Chairperson of the Committee, Teuta Sahatqija, were received by the Minister for European Integration, Klajda Gjosha, to discuss the general political processes in Kosovo and Albania; with particular emphasis in the process of European Integration and the possibilities of further advancing mutual cooperation.

The process of Kosovo`s Stabilization and Association, particularly the Stabilisation and Association Agreement between Kosovo and the EU, was discussed in more details with Minister Gjosha. Minister Gjosha informed Minister Çollaku with Albania`s experience in the context of the SAA.
The process of visa liberalisation, the main priority of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, was also discussed. In this regard, Kosovo continued to work in meeting the all requirements of the Visa Liberalisation Dialogue, and efforts have been foreseen to be duplicated now that the process is at its final stage.

Both ministers agreed to intensify the cooperation between the two ministries in a number of important issues, such as: the use of European Union funds and translation of European Union legislation.

After the meeting, Minister Çollaku and Minister Gjosha held a press conference, whereby they informed the journalists about the details of the meeting and discussed on issues of mutual interest.

In his opening remark, Minister Çollaku stated: “Albania is a country with the status of Candidate for EU membership, and we expect Albania to soon start the membership negotiations. In this regard, I expressed my gratitude to Minister Gjosha for the commitment in enabling that the experience and knowledge of Albania`s institutions, in the context of European integration, is transferred to Kosovo institution,”.

On her behalf, Minister Gjosha stated: “Albania, at this stage, is in a rather favourable position to be the supporting voice for Kosovo, in the context of its EU integration and membership to regional initiatives. In this regard, the Ministry that I lead remains fully committed to support Kosovo in its path to integration”.
