Illegal Migration – the greatest enemy of visa liberalisation

In the meeting was discussed on the common concern about increasing of the number of asylum seekers from Kosovo who are using the Serbian territory in order to pass the Hungarian border illegally. Minister Çitaku and the participants agreed that Kosovars don’t qualify for asylum seeking in the EU countries since Kosovo is not considered as a crisis country where the fundamental rights of any individuals belonging to any ethnicity, religion or gender are violated. In the meeting was concluded that persons who are becoming prey of such frauds, risk their individual safety, spend unnecessary funds and end up in the centres for asylum seekers and they will be repatriated to Kosovo in a very quick time and will be restricted entering Shengen zone for 3-5 next years.

Director of the Kosovo Police Mr. Maxhuni informed the present people that several investigations have already been launched which will result successful and whose aim is to investigate and arrest the ones who offer trafficking services as well as the ones who are facilitating this process.
It was required from EULEX to have a close cooperation with EU institutions such as Europol and to ensure close cooperation with Kosovo institutions, Serbia as well as EU member states in order to jointly combat this phenomenon which is part of the organised crime.

At the end of the meeting was organised a press conference in which occasion Minister Çitaku and Rexhepi informed journalists and emphasized once again that the future of Kosovars is in Kosovo, and that they should find and create their future in Kosovo, whereas asylum seeking or illegal migration is a bitter past that should not be repeated in the future. Afterwards the two Ministers responded to numerous questions of the journalists.
