During my visit to Sweden, in addition to the meetings I held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and the Swedish Institute, I had the pleasure of visiting the Riksdag, the Swedish Parliament, where I also met with two members of parliament from the Social Democratic Party, Ms. Aida Birinxhiku and Mr. Arber Gashi.
Aida grew up in Falkenberg; her parents emigrated to Sweden from the municipality of Peja in 1998. Arber grew up in Halmstad; his parents emigrated from the municipality of Drenas.
Both are part of a new generation of public representation in Sweden, engaged in issues related to youth employment, education, public services, social welfare, workers’ rights and the protection of families in need.
Talented and engaged in Swedish public life, they are a good example of the second generation of our diaspora. Successfully integrated into the country that opened its doors to families from Kosovo in difficult times, but at the same time strongly connected to Kosovo, its history and our journey towards membership in the European Union.
From Peja and Drenas, to the democratic institutions of Sweden, their journey speaks of work, dignity, education and public service.
