This morning, the Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, accompanied by the Acting Deputy Prime Minister, Besnik Bislimi, welcomed the ambassadors and diplomatic representatives of the QUINT states and the Head of the European Union Office in Kosovo.
During the meeting, many current issues were mentioned and discussed, including relations with the European Union and the path towards integration, the non-constitution of the Assembly to date, the security situation, as well as the challenges and risks posed by disinformation and fake news. Also discussed were the arrests by Serbian authorities of citizens of the Republic of Kosovo while transiting through Serbia, as well as the arrest in Kosovo of a Serbian government official.
Prime Minister Kurti and Deputy Prime Minister Bislimi informed the ambassadors and diplomatic representatives about the country’s economic performance and the results of the government’s policies during the first half of this year.
Business turnover for the first six months of the year reached a value of €10.7 billion, marking an increase of 10.3% compared to the same period last year, and setting a new record. Additionally, the government’s capital expenditures during these first six months are 24% higher than in the first half of 2024. In the first quarter of the year, the country’s economy grew by 3.61% of Gross Domestic Product. Furthermore, based on the current trend, the number of newly registered businesses this year is expected to exceed last year’s record of 12,051 new businesses.
Also highlighted were the latest data showing that under the Government’s Employment Scheme for Families, 5,163 families that previously had no employed members have been supported so far—of which 809 beneficiaries are from the four northern municipalities. Positive developments in the field of education were also noted, in particular Kosovo’s membership in the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR), and more recently, in the European Alliance for Apprenticeships (EAfA).
