Minister Çitaku today welcomed the UN WOMEN representative, Ms. Anne Marie Esper Larsen

Prishtina, 20 March 2014 – The Minister of European Integration, Vlora Çitaku met today with the UN WOMEN representative for Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Macedonia, Ms. Anne Marie Esper Larsen, wherewith they discussed the role and further strengthening the position of women in society, during this meeting, it was also talked about the help that can be offered to women entrepreneurs in business, and discussion about issues that concern women entrepreneurs in business, opportunity for even better cooperation.

Gender equality is one of the fundamental principles of the EU, is one of five values that the EU was founded and is more than a slogan, it is really our responsibility, said the Minister Çitaku during this meeting.

In general empowerment of women’s role in Kosovo society is one of my priorities in my working life in politics. “While being a Minister in the Government of Kosovo, my conviction is even more strengthened that Kosovo will develop very quickly, and more, if the role of women in our society improves. Despite the challenges, I believe that the position of women in Kosovo should continue to improve. This should happen not only for the benefit of women, but for the benefit of Kosovo’s future, said Çitaku”.

On her side, the UN WOMEN representative for Bosnia, Kosovo and Macedonia said that “Addressing issues such as women’s economic independence, their involvement in family heritage or involvement in politics and decision making, requires continuous commitment from all relevant actors, thus as being representative of UN WOMEN, getting familiar with the difficulties that a woman can pass in achieving a goal, will always seek to empower women in society even further”.
